Miles Vartan is a Chartered Member of his institute, with 20 years experience working at senior logistical and strategic business management level in progressive and developing companies. This experience has formed the bedrock of setting up his own Health & Safety Consultancy with the mission to improve the safe operations of companies that he works for, resulting in these companies experiencing an improvement in their overall commercial performance.

Miles has vast industry experience in port warehousing & operations, manufacturing, transport, printing and fast moving retail response industries. For the past 17 years Miles has worked at a senior management level in acquisitive companies, project managing many acquisitions where crucial milestones have had to be attained in terms of time deadlines and synergy realisation. These projects have contributed to a wealth of experience in Union interaction and negotiation, TUPE regulations and the alignment of differing health & Safety philosophies. Miles led the Greene King delegation at HM Governments Conciliation Service when the TGWU requested an additional negotiation group in Abingdon following the acquisition of Morland PLC. The resultant ruling was in favour of Greene King, leaving Greene King's existing negotiation group as the interface between Company and Union.

At management level he has set up systems and analysis monitoring, performance appraisal, absence management, manual handling training resulting in the reduction of associated injuries; contributing to industry workshops on how to handle material in a safe manner.

Gained experience of contributing at Board Level utilising his lateral thinking skills to add to companies' creative input and strategic direction. He has been instrumental in introducing Health & Safety policies that have significantly improved safe operating practices in differing environments.

Miles recognises the business benefits of integrating environmental strategy into core operations. Using natural resources efficiently and minimising waste is fundamental to his philosophy working with compnaies to reduce their Carbon Footprint. Measurement of this has been shown by the introduction of Euro 5 engines into LGV fleets, reduction of vehicle emmissions through exhaust gase recirculation and vehicle telematics, and reduction of empty running.
